What to expect when you receive dry needling?
Dry needling is applied with different techniques of levels 1 to 6. If you are receiving dry needling for the first time, a level 1 technique may be used in which you may feel nothing at all as the trigger point slowly relaxes. As you feel more comfortable with dry needling the therapist may increase the level of technique to obtain a deeper trigger point release. What you may feel in level 2- 6 techniques may vary from a dull ache to a sharp quick ‘twitch’ as the trigger point releases. You may also feel referred pain into your painful area which will ease as the trigger point lets go. The needle may remain in for between 10 seconds and 7minutes depending on the technique utilised and the speed in which your trigger point releases.
Dry needling is a useful tool within a larger treatment plan. When assessing your symptoms, muscle function and mobility Jian will evaluate weather trigger points are contributing to your symptoms. You will also receive exercise, education and other physiotherapy modalities to ensure optimal recovery.
Dry needling is a safe technique for treating many musculoskeletal conditions, it uses very fine monofilament needles that can hardly be felt. These needles are inserted into trigger points in your muscles. A trigger points is a hyperirritable, palpable nodule in a taught band of muscle that can cause local tenderness as well as referred pain.
Releasing trigger points results in improved local circulation, modulation of pain pathways, reducing muscle tension and increasing range of motion.
This will help you to MOVE with more comfort and recover faster as the BEST way to accelerate healing is to MOVE!
